March 23 is American Diabetes Alert Day. It's been a little over a year since I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes back on November 13, 2006. Life hasn't changed much since then for me really. My diet has always been rather balanced and healthy, allowing me some freedom in this situation, yet I am still reliant on insulin injections to truly keep my body under control. Mind you, insulin is not a cure for diabetes, merely a treatment used to keep the body in working order. For me it's four or five injections a day (one before each meal and another before bed), for others who have less stable blood sugars, it could be double that. An incessant series of finger pricking and abdominal subcutaneous injections is definitely not a cure by any means. --------- Anyways, let's talk about this photo shall we? My photography teacher has allowed us to select our own assignments this semester, and this is the second project I proposed which I had originally titled "Syringes". I figured it would be a fitting project to do in the month of March. That is a U-100 insulin syringe filled with water and red food coloring, resting on top of its orange safety cap. I'm between this and No Cure I on my favorite for this series. As always, touch ups done in Photoshop Elements 3 -Garrett |

I love how you used the insulin as the prop.
And the article really brings out the whole story of the needle. Good work Garrett.
